Northern Patriots in Research and Advocacy (NORPRA)

About Us.

Northern Patriots in Research and Advocacy (NORPRA) came into being in the Wa campus of the University for Development Studies (UDS) in December, 2005. Sixty five (65) undergraduates in the University from various parts of the country, influenced by their studies met to reflect and discuss the structural causes of poverty in northern Ghana and to examine the effects of inequalities in the Ghanaian society. The discussions generated interesting development issues and concerns which led to the formation of a northern Ghana youth group whose goal was to undertake advocacy as a contribution towards addressing the structural causes of poverty and inequalities in Ghana. Concerned Youth of Upper Regions was immediately formed with a seven member executive council. At least one executive member of the council was elected from each of the three northern regions. In addition, a five member advisory board was named, with Dr. Nicholas Atampugre as the chairman.  In January, 2007 the organization changed its name to NORPRA and in February 2007 was registered with the Registrar-General’s Department in Accra.
